It never fails to thrill me when
2010.01.29 19:31:39

one of my books for Ravenous is the book of the day.  SPELLBOUND was special to me for so many reasons.

- It was the first anthology I edited

- I had contributions from people who are great friends *and* great writers

- I love a good retold fairy tale.

If you haven't picked it up yet, I hope you'll consider doing it today at this great price.  And... I'm happy to say I'm working on another fairytale antho including retellings of Puss in Boots, The Princess and the Pea and Peter and the Wolf.  In addition, I'm finishing another full length fairytale retelling for Ravenous.

First I changed Cinderella a bit with THE GLASS STILETTO.  I hope you'll like what I choose to do for Snow White with THE FAIREST SEDUCTION.

Happy reading,

Rachel

Penthouse Forum reviews BLOOD AND COFFEE
2010.01.27 02:58:05
From December's Vol 44 No 12 Forum magazine review:

"Thanks to Twilight and True Blood, vampires are hot and sexy again, but while Blood and Coffee taps into that trend it is definitely more of a horror fantasy than a straightforward erotic novel. Many of the characters here come to grisly ends, so it's not for the squeamish, but Lisa Lane manages to keep the action moving at a relentless pace while detailing Karen's conversion from human to vampire and all the dilemmas she faces along the way. This is the first part in a trilogy, and there are enough clues as to how the action will progress to ensure those who like a bit of gore with their sexual tension will hunt down the second and third volumes."

Five Things I Love About The Sin Eater’s Prince by Keta Diablo

January 11, 2010, PAGAN SPIRITS BLOG

Sin eater: One gifted with magic, able to absorb the sins of a dying person so that person’s soul is free to go unencumbered to heaven. In Keta Diablo’s (http://ketadiablo.gather.com/) paranormal erotic romance The Sin Eater’s Prince, the sin eater is Owen Rhys, a pariah in his small village in Wales. Since his father died, Owen’s only friend is Carys, the physician’s assistant. Owen harbors a secret longing for Carys’s employer, the unbelievable beautiful healer Andras Maddock. Andras has his own magical secret: he’s a long tooth, a vampire. Their undeniable attraction puts Owen in grave danger.

There is much to love in this lush novel from Ravenous Romance; here are my five favorites.

1. The hypnotic cover. From under a gray hood, the vampire stares at us. His eyes are icy blue, his hair and long eyelashes black, his gaze both beautiful and terrifying. This is Dagan, a nasty--but gorgeous--vamp who threatens to put a serious damper on Owen and Andras’s relationship. The cover perfectly captures what Owen feels: attraction and revulsion at once toward this terrible being.

2. The Welsh language and lore. The native, Celtic language of Wales is notoriously difficult (and un-phonetic) for English speakers. They spell Wales “Cymru,” for crying out loud! Keta Diablo’s story is laced with strange Welsh folklore, history, and myth, as well as those lovely Celtic words. Lest the reader be unable to keep up, though, there is a glossary of Welsh terms, fromAnnwyn to Uffern.

3. The vampire’s prayer. Dagan offers an eerily beautiful but chilling prayer to his Dark Lord, the devil. For readers who like their vamps scary and dangerous, the vampire’s prayer delivers just the right touch of evil. An excerpt:

Whatever flows through your body, flows through mine. I am in your likeness, he who feeds on the warm, red elixir of life. I am the dreaded vampire, a blessed composition of your energy, lust and desire. My day is the mortal’s night, my sustenance their blood. When earth has witnessed its last day, I shall rise again and serve you for all eternity. “

4. The kisses. In this very sensual novel, Owen and Andras crave one another’s touch. No parts of their heavenly bodies go unexplored as they make love desperately, ecstatically. Each encounter begins when Andras looks into Owen’s beautiful green eyes…and then they kiss. Keta Diable is skilled in the art of taut sexual tension, turning up the heat until it boils over with every steamy kiss in passages like this:

“Owen’s touch on his arm, the taste of his lips melding with his, sent a jolt of unbearable pleasure rushing through him. The sin eater’s fingers wound their way into the hair at the back of his neck and Owen drew him deeper into the kiss. Andras parted his lips with his tongue, evoking a breathless moan and a defenseless surrender of his body against Owen’s. “

5. Carys. Even a boy-meets-boy romance can use a female character to root for; in The Sin Eater’s Prince, that woman is Carys. Loyal, determined, and clear-headed (despite her tendency to believe in Welsh superstitions), she is a true friend to both Owen and Andras. Carys is less damsel in distress and more Celtic warrior woman.

Lovers of paranormal erotic fiction will find The Sin Eater’s Prince irresistible for these, and many other, reasons. It contains a well-crafted world of British Isles magic, wonder, and romance.

Cecilia Tan
New review for Magic University!
2010.01.15 09:10:11
Tamela Quijas, the author of paranormal romances Blood of the Beast and My Lord Raven, read Magic University Book One: The Siren and the Sword, and loved it! Her full review is up at her blog here: http://tamelaquijas.wordpress.com/2010/01/04/the-siren-and-the-sword-by-author-cecilia-tan/

but among the things she said that made me squee:
"I enjoyed every word Ms. Tan had penned to the page, the magical touches of her story dropping me into the midst of a delightful fantasy world filled with mystery and intrigue."

And "The Siren and the Sword's tale leaps from the page in erotic, steam filled drama that is guaranteed to singe your fingertips!  A wonderful group of friends, magic that flies from page to page, the novel is a delightful sexual romp into a magical world that will not disappoint. Harry [Potter] could only wish he had classes this entertaining."

Book Two: The Tower and the Tears will be out in a matter of weeks, so if you've been meaning to read Book One, now's a good time. Especially since Ravenous is having a massive "all books only $1.79" sale right now.

Review for The Sin Eater's Prince

THE SIN EATER'S PRINCE Review From Book Junkie Blog: FOUR STARS!

Keta Diablo's latest release The Sin Eater's Prince is a truly mesmerizing story and for this reader it was something a little new.

This is Owen's story and he is a Sin Eater as his father before him; cursed and held into a life he didn’t choose. The towns folk look upon his as a plague as they know the sight of him carries death. Thing is, Owen is just a man in his mid twenties who has his own desires, and his number one desire is Dr. Andras Maddock, a vampire who he can not help but be attracted to. More than that, Andras pulls every carnal craving out of him. Andras feels the same for Owen and when they touch they are not sin eater and vampire but two people who share an intense attraction toward one another.

Immediately I adored both Andras and Owen. Both men felt as though they were stuck with duty for the oaths they’ve taken. Owen having taken the oath to his father to become a sin eater and carry their legacy. Andras's oath to Owen's father for saving him in the forest all those years ago when left for dead. An oath to never take the blood of a human and to watch and care for Owen upon his death.

Dagan is after Andras who holds a very important and deadly item in which he covets with his very life. Dagan is after the Prince of Wales’s sword which Andras posses. Once they capture the sword, their power will increase beyond imagination. This is the same sword that Andras killed his creator, Traherne with. The sword would hold the power to grant the vampires to walk in the daylight.

Danger is all around them in this amazingly brilliant mystical tale. Not without humor and I’m not sure if Keta created the character Carys for that purpose, but I found so much humor in her personality. She’s an orphan who was taken in by Andras upon the death of her parents and she is a superstitions little thing. Her beauty is unchallenged and I delighted every time her presences came to the page. The banter, although harmless and light, between Owen teasing her and telling her of all the creatures he has spied and her gullibility put a smile on my face and lighten the dark story. She is a believer all things mystical and I just found her dialog appealing.

What began as a lustful longing blossomed into something quite beautiful as the relationship and love between Owen and Andras grew through every page. Owen asking Andras to turn him so he could help fight and protect him against Dagan and his followers was heartwarming. What I liked most about this story was that the underlying love story and it was just that, love.

Thank goodness Keta added a glossary at the end, I would have been a little lost if not! I wish more authors would do that!

Blessings, Keta

The Sin Eater's Prince Coming Thursday!
2010.01.08 23:54:15
About The Sin Eater's Prince:

Owen Rhys, the sin eater of his village in Wales, has been shunned by the local villagers his entire life--except by Andras Maddock, the local physician. In love with the one man he thinks will never return that love, Owen is shocked when Andras saves him from death at the hands of a vampire and admits he cares deeply for Owen.

Dagan, son of Traherne, the vampire Andras killed to save Owen, will stop at nothing to avenge his father’s death and obtain the Prince of Wales’s mystic sword from Andras. The divine claymore holds the power to grant immunity from the sun’s harsh rays—the one exemption the dark Lords of the Underworld has sought for centuries.

Star-crossed love, sorcery, and bloodlust collide on a vengeful path where only one side can remain victorious.

Revenge and redemption.

Dark versus light.

Good versus evil.

The Sin Eater’s Prince.

Two New Rave Reviews!
2009.12.29 02:47:52

Bitten by Books just reviewed The Darkness and the Night II: Cosmic Orgasm and The Darkness and the Night III: Twins of Darkness, giving Cosmic O 4.5 Tombstones and Twins of Darkness a whopping 5 Tombstones!

From the review for Cosmic O:

Lisa Lane picked up right where she left off with this emotionally packed sequel. I actually enjoyed Karen in this book more than the first. She grew not just in her vampiric self but as a woman and a soon to be mother. Her journeys kept me lounging on the couch, unable to put the book down and leave her to face the atrocities she was going though alone. There were actually a few spots in the plot that I was not expecting, and that made the tale even that much better. If you are looking for a new vampire series with a heroine that doesn’t have the easy life but keeps on going, then this is the series for you. Karen is one vampire that you won’t forget!

From the review for Twins of Darkness:

I have enjoyed the ride that Lisa Lane has taken me on with the first two books. But this third book took me beyond enjoyment. Through the varied twists and turns, she has offered a world beyond the imagination. The development of the twins is a reminder of how children grow into individuals of their own making despite how we may try to guide them; we can only hope that they will take the lessons we teach them. Ms. Lane has managed to entice, entrap, and thrill us with her latest installment in the Darkness and Night series, and I have enjoyed it thoroughly.

You can read the full reviews here.  I'm so excited to share these with you--The Darkness and the Night trilogy was so much fun for me to write, and I'm so honored that all three have now been reviewed by Bitten by Books!

Thanks so much, Bitten by Books, for the awesome reviews, and thanks to my readers, for joining me in the adventure!

Warm regards and happy reading!

Another awesome review has come in for Land of Falling Stars from a wonderful blog run by Book Junkie. As the year closes and the New Year rolls in, I want to take the time to say thanks to all the great people at Ravenous Romance . . . and thank you for releasing Land of Falling Stars as one of your firsts!

Here's to looking forward to many more fabulous releases from RAVENOUS ROMANCE!

Book Junkies' Review (partial)

LAND OF FALLING STARS

REVIEW From BOOK JUNKIE! -

5 out of 5! Keta Diablo has done it again!

To say I loved this book is an understatement, so let me tell you a little about what I thought without (I hope), not giving away too many spoilers. Through an emotional scene at the beginning of the story which without reservation captured my heart and squeezed it, we learn of Jesse's fate at the hands of his best friend Gavin. LOFS Makes for one phenomenal read that will keep your heart pumping and the pages turning, not just from the delightfully sinful sex, oh no, the drama and suspense will carry you through till the end!

First and foremost I wanted to thank JennJ & Heather D who recommended Land of Falling Stars to me when I reviewed Keta Diablo's Decadent Deceptions!

Then second a great many thanks to Keta for writing such a damn good book!

Post NaNoWriMo Glow
2009.12.13 21:20:46

Like many other people around the world, I wrote the first draft of a 50,000 word novel in November.  This is the third year I have done so, and 2009 in particular gave me an extra boost to dig into revision of other works after I hit my required word count.  I had been in a bit of a funk for the past few months with my writing.  NaNoWriMo gave me the permission to drop all of my excuses and just write.

No inner editor.

No wondering if I could sell the work.

No complaining to myself that I was too busy to write.

Starbucks made some serious money from me last month.  I personally contributed to helping end the recession by drinking lots of coffee and eating lots of coffee cake.  I completed draft one of this year's NaNoWriMo novel by November 20th.  It's the second work in a series I've had my hands in for awhile.  November 21st began my descent into serious revision of book one.

Another toy that helped liberate me from my inner editor this past November was writing on an Alphasmart.  I didn't have to look at the squiggly lines in Microsoft Word telling me I had misspelled words.  I plowed ahead and wrote as if typos didn't exist.

Typos don't exist during NaNoWriMo in the same way that calories don't exist in December.

Now that it is December and typos exist again, I'm in the delightful process of extracting my plot from the garble I typed.  I ran it through a spell check and nearly 10% of the typos were strange enough that I had no idea what word I was trying to type on the Alphasmart.  The tedium of fixing my NaNoWriMo is a battle I'm looking forward to in the latter half of December and into January.

I wouldn't have it any other way.  :)

What A Difference A Year Makes!
2009.12.01 21:44:31
A year ago today, I watched Ravenous Romance roll-out to the public.  It was quite a splash, with its sophisticated look of a website, its authors' blog, and its many sub-genre offerings. And I got to be part of the action!

A decade previous to this date, I embarked on writing short erotic fiction. Dozens of my stories appeared in major anthologies from Cleis Press, Alyson Books, the now-defunct Venus Book Club, Berkley Heat, and more.  I celebrated every by-line and cherished every opportunity. But something was missing. I was one of those authors that the larger mainstream publishing world overlooked. I was an early blogger and diarist about sex and my sex life, yet no book deal came my way. I had a couple of novels in the can yet securing an agent was a multi-year exercise in futility. I watched the romance market embrace a certain level of eroticism in their publishing lines... but it did not speak to me in a way that was authentic to my experience or even paralleled the intensity of erotic writing I had done. Let me tell you, I felt left out in the cold.

Until Lori Perkins blew me away by inviting me to submit Ravenous Romance. She remembered my writing and publishing creds -- something every writer prays for -- and just when I questioned whether to continue on, she gave me the very outlet I needed to journey on. I had a whole new reason to celebrate and cherish opportunity.  Since then, Lori and her partners have brought two of my novels into e-print. They've asked for several more, including one that is shaping up to be an opus of a lifetime. And, most soulful to me, they've allowed me to write from the erotic edge. Not once have they asked me to softball my erotic portrayals.

Today, all of us Ravenous Romance authors are celebrating our good fortune. We're ecstatic.  And our publisher is celebrating, too, by offering all full-length ebooks to the reading public for a mere .99 cents.  What a way to celebrate!

Happy anniversary, Ravenous Romance!

Lisa Lane
Happy Birthday, Ravenous Romance!
2009.12.01 09:39:29

On December 1, 2008, New York literary agent Lori Perkins teamed up with longtime publishers Holly Schmidt and Allan Penn, to embark on a literary venture that promised to be innovative, provocative, and unafraid to take chances.  Ravenous Romance has met all of those goals and then some, and I’m so pleased to be among their list of authors.

I learned about Ravenous Romance just a few months before the launch.  Being an avid follower of Lori Perkins’ blog, “Agent in the Middle,” I responded to an open call for submissions, for an anthology that would feature creative short stories about Sex and Shoes.  I wrote a chancy piece featuring a married couple who appear at first glance to have a shared shoe fetish ... only at the heartfelt end does the twist reveal itself and the real meaning of the story shine through.  Ms. Perkins accepted it, and then invited me to submit more of my stories for other upcoming anthologies.  I ended up having two stories being accepted in the Men in Shorts anthology, at which time Ms. Perkins requested to see some of my longer works.

My erotic horror vampire trilogy, The Darkness and the Night, had been on the back burner for some time, and decided to add a little romance to the story and see if Ravenous Romance might be interested.  They bought the trilogy, and then commissioned me to work on the most delightful project I have ever had the privilege to write: an erotic space trek, inspired by some of my favorite episodic sci-fi shows (Star Trek, Red Dwarf, Farscape, etc.).  It was a closet-geek’s dream come true, and to this day my tribute, Lust in Space, campy and kinky in all the right places, has been a fan favorite.

I contributed a couple more short stories (my personal favorite is “Blood and Money,” which can be found in the Sex and Taxes Anthology), and had a blast with those, as well, but nothing prepared me for the next proposition I would receive:  Ravenous Romance had teamed up with the Home Shopping Network, planning the first ever television release of an exclusive romance collection.  The owners had hand-picked six books each in three different subgenres: paranormal, historical, and contemporary, and they wanted Lust in Space to be among the paranormal group.  However, they wanted me to rewrite the story and create a sister book, of sorts: whereas Lust in Space is an experimentally kinky erotic work (I had fun seeing how far I might push my limits), Love in Space was to be romantic, sweet, and completely vanilla.

It turned out to be, in my opinion, my best published work.  Love in Space has it all: action, adventure, space travel, aliens, romance, wit, literary “Easter eggs”—and intergalactic war.  I can’t thank Ravenous Romance enough for challenging me as they did with this story.  Lori Perkins and Holly Schmidt knew how to make a great story even better, and they pushed me to turn a fun and kinky space trek into a heartfelt and fun romantic adventure.  Moreover, they gave me the chance to prove myself as an author—in a market of mass closed doors, stiff competition, and form rejection letters, during a time in the recession when being a no-name writer like me would have been otherwise left sitting cold in the dark.

Writing for Ravenous Romance has been an amazing experience.  I’m delighted to have so many people reading my work, and I’m delighted to be working with such a great group of people.  Happy Birthday, Ravenous Romance—here’s to another great year!

Love in Space
2009.11.17 03:44:36

If you haven't yet had a chance to read Love in Space, my sweet, romantic counterpart to Lust in Space, you don't know what you're missing!

RR author Ryan Field sent me this thoughtful and flattering blurb (thanks, Ryan!):

From the very first page of "Love in Space," Lisa Lane drew me into the exciting world of space travel and love with wonderful characters, an excellent writing style, and smooth, easy dialogue. Her words are soothing and gentle, and nothing is ever over-written. I enjoyed the way Lisa created strong, smart female characters, and I was fascinated by the way she slipped sensuality into believable, realistic scenes that kept me turning the pages. "Love in Space" is one of the best books in this genre I've read this year.

Love in Space

So, you see that Lust in Space is available here, through Ravenous Romance, and also electronically through Amazon's Kindle store, but Love in Space is available exclusively through the Home Shopping Network ... what's the difference, you ask?

Both are thoughtful tributes to the episodic space-trek, my homage to Star Trek, Red Dwarf, Battlestar Galactica, Farscape, and others; they are for fans of the genre, written by a very avid fan.

Lust in Space is for those who like a little kink in their lives: it contains a lot of experimental material ... alien sex, threesomes, foursomes, a bisexual alien having sex with her past self (you'll have to read it to see how that happens)....  It's a fun, wild ride, for the adventurous and curious alike.  However, it is not for everyone....

Love in Space is ... at least it is for all those who enjoy the episodic space-trek genre.  Love in Space has it all: romance, passion, seemingly impossible situations for seemingly impossible heroes, aliens, space battles, and even an extra "episode"--an away mission to a planet inhabited by human-mimicking androids, who would do just about anything to "preserve" their new, organic human treasures--written specifically for the HSN exclusive printing.

You can find Love in Space in HSN's PARANORMAL collection here.  An added bonus: all of HSN's "Escape with Romance" collections are currently on sale--with free shipping!  If you've seen any of these books, you already know what great holiday gifts they would make, and with the current sale price (each collection contains six display-quality books, normally for $29.95, now on sale for $24.95) you can get enough books to give some away as gifts and keep some for yourself, without breaking your holiday budget.  Check out Love in Space and the other amazing books in the "Escape with Romance" collections--I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

HSN guarantees it, too.  They're so confident that you'll love these books, they're backing them all with a 100% money-back guarantee.  You've got nothing to lose--but several new favorite authors to gain!

Happy reading!

REVIEW

Near Fredericksburg, Virginia. May, 1864

I love historical books that take place during the Civil War Era, this book did not disappoint me. This book contains steamy scenes and graphic language. The characters make this book.

Sophia, Gavin and Jesse have been friends since childhood. Jesse and Sophia have been pledged to marriage from birth. Gavin hides his deep love for Sophia. Gavin was a Yankee and fought as one.

The war is coming to an end and Sophia Whitfield has lost everything, her friends, her family, Jesse and Gavin. Lately she has been having dreams of Jesse. She just knows he will return safe and they will be married.

She didn’t recognize Gavin when he walked down the road in his Yankee. She shot him. He has a bullet hole in his chest. She and two slaves try to save Gavin.

Gavin is a besieged man. War is hard on a person and he is carrying secrets that torment him. He has news for Sophia but as the days go by their passion for each other grows. Sophia is waiting for Jesse to return. Her feelings for Gavin grows as Billy Cooper swears he will have her as his wife She know it is only because he wants Arbor Rose, Sophia’s homestead.

Eventually Sophia finally learns the real reason why Gavin returned to her home. Her feelings are mixed. The relationship waffles from hot to cold .

Land of Falling Stars is filled with passion, heartache, and pride. I hope there is a sequel in the works. This is a good read

Another paperback that is available for purchase is the Hot Dads: The DILF Anthology edited by Lori Perkins.  Check it out here.

Manic Readers has a review of Hot Dads: The DILF Anthology.  Read the whole thing here.

My favorite part of the review:

"Moving In With My Employer
Ralph desperately needs a live-in nanny to help him take care of his two sons. What will he do when Gina, a woman he had a past relationship with, applies for the job?

Ms. Jen Bluekissed brings us a story about lovers with a prior relationship and what happens when they are given a second chance. There is a scene so hot in this story it might singe your eyelids."

October has been such a fun month, and it's only halfway over!  Happy reading!

P.S. I'm gearing up for NaNoWriMo in November.  Yes.  One of these days you'll see an actual NOVEL from me.  I do write those too, though I do love a great short story.

I. G. Frederick
For the latest
2009.10.04 02:27:00

I don't get a chance to update this blog very often. For the latest news, you can visit my website or my (duplicate) blogs on WordPress and LiveJournal. Hope you'll stop by.

I have written professionally for more years than I care to admit and have specialized in erotic fiction and poetry since 2001. I have sold three novels as well as numerous short stories and poems to various print and electronic magazines and anthologies. My work has received high praise from readers, critics, and other writers.

Night Owl Romance named my latest novel, Dommemoir, a Top Pick. Preditors & Editors Readers Poll named her novel, Shattered, one of the top ten erotica novels published in 2008. Broken was number twelve in the mainstream category for 2008.

There's a contest, too, at the end of the interview so read through, answer the questions and you could win a CD of the SPELLBOUND anthology or a download of my short story JUST'S DESSERTS.

Many thanks to the ladies at J&J.  I am pleased and proud to be part of their archives.

Have a great week all,

Rachel
