Want to Write for Ravenous Romance?

Ravenous Romance is always looking for great sexy stories! We are currently acquiring erotic romance novels and short stories in all subgenres, including contemporary, paranormal, gay, lesbian, and ménage.

Every book must be a compelling romance, with a great love story and passionate, explicit sex. While our stories do not have to end happily-ever-after, we want the fantasy of "happy-for-now" in every ending.

We are looking for stories with strong, alpha-male heroes, creative world-building, compelling plots, and hot sex. Our readers want to explore their romantic and sexual fantasies while reading our books, and your story needs to take them there.

Ravenous Romance will consider completed novels between 50,000-60,000 words, and short fiction between 2,500 and 5,000 words. We occasionally acquire novellas (~15,000 words) as part of an anthology project. Manuscripts above or below these word counts may be acceptable, but only for an exceptional submission. All material must be the author's own original work, and material that has been previously published in any form (including electronic) will not be considered.

Please read our guidelines carefully below before submitting.

GENERAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Unless you are a previously published author, do not send a query! Send the completed manuscript as outlined here. Study our various lines and read what we publish - this is the absolute best way to know if your work is the kind of writing we publish! For NOVELS, when you submit, please include in the body of your email, a brief (one paragraph) description of the work, including the subgenre, and which Ravenous Romance line you think it is best suited for. All submissions must come via email in either Microsoft Word or Rich Text File (RTF) format as an attachment. In addition to the work itself, please include a longer (one to two page) synopsis of the work.

If you are a previously published author, you may query us regarding proposals, partials, or completed manuscripts via email with a brief (one page) description of the work, as well as your publishing history. If the manuscript is completed, you may send the completed work itself, in lieu of a query.

All manuscript submissions must be in standard submission format (see below), and include the author's name (and pseudonym, if applicable), mailing address, and phone number. Submissions may be sent to either our general submissions email address, which is: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , where they will be forwarded to the appropriate editor, or you may submit directly to one of our editors: Lori Perkins ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. SUBMISSION CATEGORIES:

Modern Love

This is our contemporary romance category, where our heroine faces the romantic zeitgeist and finds the man of her dreams in the most unlikely places.

Fantastica

In this category, we are looking for stories about every kind of supernatural being and the women/men who love them.

Futurotica

Books set in future time periods, often in outer space.

Breathless

In our romantic suspense category, our heroines find themselves solving crimes, pursued by their passions and fears.

Anthologies

We publish many anthologies that are edited in-house by our editorial staff. Calls for these anthologies are posted on our blog at www.ravenousromance.blogspot.com. We are not currently accepting submissions for outside anthologies.

Wicked Pleasures

These stories are an uninhibited exploration of the sexual boundaries people can explore together.

Once Upon a Time

These historical romances may be set anywhere from the Civil War to the Summer of Love or Victorian England. We also publish erotic retellings of classic fairy tales in this category.

Real Man Romance

A category where our readers can get swept off their feet by everyday heroes - cops, fireman, lumberjacks, and other strong, manly men.

M/M, Lesbian, and Ménage

Gay, lesbian or erotic romances involving three (or four or more!) people are welcome! Quite often, our M/M and Lesbian titles offer a twist on a classic or very popular hetero romance novel. Our M/M titles tend to feature two alpha males, while many of our Lesbian titles focus on the lesbian fantasies of straight women. This is why twists on hetero romance titles work so well for our audience.

WE DO NOT PUBLISH:

Poetry, non-fiction, or other genres of fiction that we do not publish. ALL of our titles are erotic romances and subgenres within that field.

Anything with pedophilia, which involves sexual situations between adults and children. We are not interested in "barely legal" situations, either.

Anything with necrophilia, which is sex with a truly dead body. If your vampires and zombies are having sex (with the living or each other), it better be lively.

Anything with bestiality, which is sex with animals. Sentient beings, including shapeshifters, centaurs, and the like must be adequately anthropomorphized.

Rape or incest. If it's a necessary part of a story, its purpose should not be to arouse.

MANUSCRIPT FORMAT GUIDE (Manuscript Title)
Joe Author (Author Name)

This is a sample manuscript format guide. While many publishers will have minor differences, which you should double check before submitting, most will accept this basic format without a problem for the vast majority of fiction submissions. There are some key settings that you should follow at all times: the font should be either Times New Roman (preferred) or Courier 12pt., the margins should be set at 1" on all sides of the page, and the main text paragraphs should be double-spaced, left justified, and the first line of each paragraph indented .5", and there is no extra spacing before or after the paragraph. Do not use tabs to indent! You can use the Format/Paragraph tool to automatically maintain these settings throughout a manuscript, but they are NOT the default settings for Microsoft Word.

In addition to the above, you should be aware that Microsoft Word automatically spaces properly after a period. So, you should only put one (1) space after a period, not the standard two (2), which you might have learned in a basic typing course. If you want to show emphasis, you may simply italicize the font, and in the rare instance that you want something bold you can do that, too. Many of the instructions for manuscript format that suggested underlining, etc., are dated from when manuscripts were manually typeset.

Another common mistake is showing a scene break. A scene break should be five (5) asterisks, with a space between each, aligned either left or center, with no extra spaces before or after the break. Like this:

* * * * *
Every manuscript should have a header. The header should be .5" from the top of the page, and include the author last name, at least one memorable word from the title of the manuscript, and the page number. For example: Author/Manuscript Format/2. The first page should not have a header.
When you want to show a new chapter, insert a page break - do not use section breaks - and begin the new chapter at the top of the next page. Mark your chapter like this:

CHAPTER TWO or 2

If you are having trouble with the format settings, you can always turn on the display in Microsoft Word that will allow you to see formatting marks. This may help you see more clearly the areas you are struggling with in formatting your manuscript properly. Be sure to turn off the display before doing a final save and submitting the manuscript!
There are numerous resources online that will help you with standard manuscript format, as well as how to set it up in Microsoft Word to make it easier for you to do. A properly formatted manuscript is the first, best way to show that you are a professional writer!
