| A Real Fan of Ravenous Romance... |
| 2009.02.20 21:20:58 | |
|
My friend Ryan who blogs here is a huge fan of ravenous romance. He posted another wonderful piece about American Star this morning, along with photos and comments. Ryan has been blogging for a while now. And I've been following his blog for many reasons. The most important is that I knew when I first read his blog he knew what he was doing. Blogging can be used a promotional tool, an outlet to rant, and a nice place to record the ups and downs of daily living. But the best blogs are always real, and he does this so naturally I became an instant fan. So if you get a chance to stop by and read some of his posts, I think you'll be surprised at what you find. As I writer, I constantly save my work. I have thumb drives that I use constantly as well as saving to various email accounts. After almost every paragraph I write in my longer works, I obsessively hit the save button. Or so I thought. A virus recently hijacked my computer. I've been without it all week and have been sharing my husband's laptop. Between my web and my thumb drives, there are various drafts of various projects but almost all of them aren't at the same stage of production as what I had on the hard drive of my laptop. It's still being wiped clean and restored, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I haven't lost everything.

| Champagne! |

My muse, Zin, and I are celebrating because Cythnia Gentry and I finished our non-fiction project and sent it off to the publisher. Zin also helped me with my taxes (refunds, yay!). In return, we now are back to our next Ravenous book, titled CHAMPAGNE. So much more fun! Here's a brief synopsis: Jeanette Wilson is an American girl on the trip of a lifetime to the wine regions of But things change for Jeanette once they come to the zenith of their French road-trip, the Champagne house of Chateau Roux-Dubois. Their hosts, Amaury and Marie-Elise Roux-Dubois, turn out to be both charming and attractive, and go out of their way to extend a warm welcome to her. And they make it very clear that it is she, not Daryl, who is their special guest, particularly when the striking Marie-Elise takes Jeanette down to the wine cellar for a very personal tour, followed by an unusual French lesson from Amaury. Soon Jeanette finds herself caught up in a menage a trios with the Roux-Dubois, both intent on teaching her many things... And after Champagne? It's time for a little fantastical paranormal romance. Zin and I are enjoying stretching our sub-genre wings. Tags: champagne | taxes | erotica | happy

I've set up an author profile on Goodreads. Would love to have some fans or friends there. Perhaps you would like to check it out. There's Erotic fan and BDSM discussion groups, but they only have twelve and five members so far. Would be great to see more. I've also succumbed to the bird's call. | Haunted Seduction...a Review |
| 2009.02.19 00:06:05 | |
|
I want to thank Nixy Valentine for the excellent review of my Ravenous Romance novel, Haunted Seduction. To me, the most important element of a story or novel is the characters. You can have an intricate plot, an exotic setting, but unless you can care about or be genuinely curious about the folks who people the story, then it is going to be hard to force yourself through 50 or 200 pages of their lives. I appreciate Nixy's comments about my flawed yet realistic character, and the fact that the sex - which is critical to an erotic story - is intricate to the story, not just something folks do. Here's a link to the review: http://www.nixyvalentine.com/index.php/2009/02/review-haunted-seduction/comment-page-1/ Thanks again, Nixy. I'll continue to do my best to offer steamy, sexy stories with characters that ring true, and situations that test them to their limits.

A gently laced chain of words awakens every sense; colorful, sweet, musky, hard, and symphonic offering, aching, needing.
The hot, wet red rose smells the fragrant hard wood that penetrates deep into the earth, expanding, tasting her soil, and dancing to the sonata in the wind.

Update: Here's how to find the comment...click "here", above, which will take you to the blog post titled, "Love in the Time of Recession," then open the comment page and scroll down. | AMERICAN IDOL is now in full swing... |
| 2009.02.18 20:54:38 | |
![]() There are free excerpts for all the books at ravenousromance.com, and I thought I'd do a post with one of those excerpts for AMERICAN STAR. And now that American Idol is in full swing and the voting has started, the timing couldn't have been more perfect.
The day Terrence decided he was going to audition for a new TV reality show, he was reading the newspaper in the tanning salon where he worked as manager. It was a warm, humid Friday morning in late August, and it was exactly one year to the day since he’d buried his mother. The newspaper advertisement for the audition said all that was required was to show up at a hotel in New York City and sing.
And that was one of the two things in life Terrence knew how to do well. The other thing involved dropping his pants.
Then the front door opened wide and an attractive young man stepped into the waiting area – Terrence’s boss. He was wearing loose white hockey shorts and his large penis bounced up and down as he crossed toward the counter. He never wore underwear. His name was Kevin and he’d been Terrence’s boyfriend since high school. It was clear he wasn’t having a very good day so far. His short blond hair was messy on top, therewere dark circles under his eyes, and his skin looked pale. When he saw the open newspaper on the counter, he slammed a blue bank deposit bag on top of it and said,“Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt you.”
Terrence slowly folded the newspaper and sighed. But he didn’t reply. Kevin’s silence suggested Terrence had been slacking off that morning because he’d been reading.
“Must be interesting,” Kevin finally said. He looked down at the newspaper with steel blue eyes and placed his hands on his hips. Then he spread his muscular legs and started rocking on the balls of his feet.
“It’s nothing important,” Terrence said, rolling his eyes. He didn’t want to tell Kevin about the the audition. His boss would have given a million reasons why he thought he shouldn’t do the show, from his lack of talent to the fact that reality television was a passing phase and wouldn’t last. Even though Kevin secretly loved reality television, he couldn’t wait for an open opportunity to knock Terrence down. Terrence knew full well that Kevin had sent in audition tapes and entry forms to shows like “Big Brother” and “The Bachelor.” But he’d always been rejected.
“Don’t give me your shit this morning, bitch,” Kevin said, slamming the palm of his wide hand on the counter. There were deep, dark circles under his eyes and his breath smelled of stale beer.
Terrence jumped. He pressed his palm to his throat and said, “I’m not giving you attitude, Kevin. I’m just not in a great mood this morning.” But it was beginning to occur to him that whenever Kevin walked into a room, his heart started to race and his mouth felt dry.
“Oh, that time of the month again,” Kevin said, then raised his arms as though being held at gunpoint. “I’m getting sick and tired of this bullshit. Take a pill, bitch.” He slammed both great hands on the counter. Kevin loved to refer to Terrance as the feminine type; a moody “girl” with imagined monthly periods. Terrence wasn’t the least bit feminine. He had short dark hair, was average in height and had a slim, well-defined body. His legs were smooth and strong and his ass rounded like a beach ball. If anyone saw him walking down the street, they wouldn’t even know he was gay. But Kevin took pleasure in having him come across as prissy; as though his being effeminate would make Kevin more of a man somehow...

| SEXSTROLOGY SERIES |
| 2009.02.18 02:48:06 | |
|
SEXSTROLOGY SERIES What the heck is it? This is a series about 12 women who belong to a coven in a fictional little town called Hermana, loosely based on Salem. Each woman represents a sign of the zodiac. Each book is based on a particular woman’s birthday month. Each book is a stand-alone romantic/erotic adventure. You don’t need to read the other books to read any of the books, although characters pop in and out of each other’s books, just like in real life. The connection with the books is the monthly circle, held at Lucy’s house, either on the full moon or new moon, depending on what plot devices I need to use. For 2009, the monthly spell is a love activation spell, and combined with Ellie’s feng shui and Gwen’s astrological charts, the lucky lady of the month is certain to find love. As an author who has always adored horror, science fiction, suspense, and mystery genres, the books have my own brand of intrigue. Some of the books could be considered a bit horror, others suspense, and others, straight out romance. These are books that dabble in metaphysical ideas. Each book is completely different from another. For example, my Sag woman sleeps with anything that moves while my Aquarian woman has to think about sex a lot before doing it. I’ve never been shy to write about sex, so my lovely ladies are always ready to try almost anything, and some of them can be downright kinky. Their appetites reflect the common perceptions of their sun signs. My newest book in the Sexstrology series will be out on Friday February 20, 2009 and is called PISCES: TEACHER'S PET. Other books already out include: Sagittarius: Open Heart, Open Mind A nympho Sag tarot reader falls in love with a Virgo welder who has a terrifying secret. Capricorn: Cursed A Capricorn vampire medium who loves to play her violin is intrigued by a mysterious Gemini she met on New Year's Eve. Aquarius: Haunted Heart An Aquarian journalist/ghost hunter finds love with a Scorpio surferboy/ghost hunter in a haunted asylum. Pisces: Teacher's Pet A Piscean lingerie store owner, aura reader and art teacher is smitten by her hot student's obvious talents in the bedroom and out. Coming Soon: Aries: Swinging into Spring An Aries palm reader searches for the ultimate sexual pleasure with a broken hearted Aquarius.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into the town of Hermana and the lovely ladies who hang out there. Blessed Be, Sephera Tags: erotic | horror | mystery | astrology | feng shui | palmistry | tarot | Sephera | giron

| Where Do Characters Come From? |
| 2009.02.18 02:47:48 | |
|
A few years ago, I was doing a live radio call-in show when a listener phoned in and insisted I'd used him as one of my characters. I told him I was flattered that he saw himself in one of my characters, but all my characters are fictitious. I dare say that's true for most novelists and short story writers. Of course, characters can be inspired by flesh-and-blood people. Often they're amalgams. A character might combine the traits of several people--your sister's hair, your boss's feisty temper, your best friend's interest in archery. It's not uncommon to give a character a few of your own attributes--or to endow him/her with qualities you wish you had. You can make your character taller, prettier, smarter, braver, richer, better hung--whatever you please--then send him/her out into the world to do all the things you'd like to do. How cool is that? Writers get to play God/dess. Some characters seem to emerge "out of the blue." Even the writer doesn't know where they came from. They may turn up at your desk fully formed and demand a role in your story, or slip in the door quietly and begin sharing bits and pieces of themselves until you're hooked. As you fellow authors know, characters have minds of their own and they can be quite insistent. They keep you awake nights talking. They distract you when you're supposed to be busy doing your day job. If you let them, they'll take over your book and try to run the show. Writers have lots of imaginary friends. We never go anywhere without a few of them tagging along. Being a writer gives you license not only to talk to yourself, but to your characters as well. My characters like to ride in the car with me. When I started writing my first mystery, I didn't know whodunit until I was halfway through the book. One day I driving down the highway when the villain appeared in the seat beside me and said, "We've all gotten together [meaning the characters in my book] and decided it's time you knew. I'm here to tell you I did it." Of course, then I had to go back and rewrite the first half of the book. TAROTICA, my forthcoming novel for RR, features lots of colorful characters based on the 22 cards in the Tarot's Major Arcana. It's been great fun translating centuries-old archetypes into contemporary characters who depict the qualities and symbolism pictured in the cards. I hope you'll enjoy meeting Lancelot Lucas, a sex magician who conducts erotic rituals in a secret pyramid; Freeman, who hangs upside down from a tree in order to see the world better; Bradaigh Malone, a hermit who collects crystals that predict the future; Giselle Constant, a winemaker who keeps a mountain lion as a pet--and lots more. And I'll be interested to hear your feedback, especially from those of you who use the Tarot. What decks do you like best? What do the symbols mean to you? Which card(s) represent you? Write On! | Follow Up on Lasting Love Submissions... |
| 2009.02.17 21:49:48 | |
|
After the post about all the great submissions for the Lasting Love anthology, I had to follow up with this short post. As I said, all the submissions were good, and I have a feeling that the one I didn't actually get a chance to read was good, too. I'll explain. Last Friday afternoon I received a last minute e-mail from a writer who wanted to submit for the anthology, but didn't see the call for submission until that week. The deadline was Saturday, and the writer wanted to know if they could submit early the following week. They couldn't submit on Saturday because of religious reasons, and apologized a thousand times. So I replied and said they could submit on Monday or Tuesday. I wasn't sure if I'd be working on Sunday (I did anyway) so there would still be time early in the week to read the short story. I don't know how other editors feel, but when someone contacts me at the last minute with a well written e-mail and a good voice, I'm curious and I want to know more about them. As it turned out, this writer didn't get a chance to submit anything because of the time factor. And I understood that; I've been there myself. The writer e-mailed me after reading the Lasting Love post I wrote, and explained this in another well written, professional e-mail. So if this writer is reading this post, I'm hoping they continue to follow the ravenous romance calls for submissions, because now I'm really curious. | Lasting Love Anthology... |
| 2009.02.16 21:30:53 | |
|
The Lasting Love anthology is coming along well. So well, I'll be able to submit it earlier than I'd originally planned. And I have to admit that everyone who submitted did an excellent job. The writers worked hard and they produced some sexy, romantic short stories that I'll never forget. I'll post about some of the stories later, but in this post I wanted to thank everyone who submitted. Each and every submission was fantastic!! I only wish I'd been able to include more submissions, because so many people took the time and effort to produce such great work. But the problem with any anthology or collection is that there's a word count, and some things have to be rejected. That's the part I hate; having to tell a writer I couldn't include something because too many people submitted stories and I had to decide which fit best with the title. So when I write back, and I will write each and every writer who submitted to Lasting Love, and say that the rejection was based on a subjective, unbiased opinion, I hope they understand. Rejections like these are not personal; if an editor could include all the stories submitted, he or she would; but that's not possible or practical. As a writer, I've had many of these rejections myself in the past so I know the feeling. But I wanted to thank everyone who did submit. There's a lot of talent out there and I hope these wonderful writers from all over the world continue to submit more work to ravenous romance in the future. | Forbidden Access! |
| 2009.02.16 00:20:00 | |
|
Three days running I've been trying to post a picture and story about the origins of Ripping the Bodice, to no avail. I keep getting a Forbidden Access message when I hist save. Perhaps this is just the story not meant to be told...unless you go here, where it posted with no problem. I'm going to try another experiment and see if the picture will post here without sending me into the Forbidden Zone again. This is me and my best friend and ex-writing partner, Maureen, back in the days of our murder mystery troupe and other creative hijinks. From those days came the idea for Ripping the Bodice. I'll say no more lest it curse my chances of seeing this post successfully! It's a lovely rainy and windy day here in San Francisco, the pefect weather to stay inside and write. That being said, I went for an invigorating walk on the beach this morning and got soaked without realizing it. The wind was blowing the rain against my back; no water was hitting my face or front at all...and suddenly I noticed my pants were plastered against my legs and butt. When it came time to turn around, my front got the same treatment. I do some of my best writing out on the beach when I don't have my computer staring me in the face. The tricky part is getting home in time to write it all down before it dissolves in the wind and rain. Tags:

| Going national . . .again. |
| 2009.02.15 20:41:29 | |
|
I'm getting a lot of mileage out of the Chicago Tribune article that ran on me last month---it keeps getting picked up by other papers across the country. This morning I received a Google Alerts stating that the article was reprinted (in part, the last couple paragraphs were cut) in the Orlando Sun-Sentinel. Here's a link. That's now four different major papers in three different regions of the country, and counting.
The Amazon sales rank on my latest print release gets higher every time this happens. Coincidence? I think not.
Meanwhile, I've gotten so wrapped up in publicity stuff that I've fallen behind on writing the novel that I'm under contract to deliver by the end of next month. Gotta get back on the stick on that. . .
Peace. Tags:

| A Girl's Best Friend |

I have been blessed in my life with a great friend. He has always been there for me whenever I needed him, regardless of the hour I called. He listens, not only with his ears but also his heart. He has guided me through the dating scene, cautioning me, encouraging me, and giving me a shoulder to cry on. His advice has never led me astray and has always steered me in the right direction. Now that I'm in a long-term relationship he continues to mentor me because I don't think I'll ever totally figure it out. When I wrote Playgirl he was with me every step. He read every chapter as I wrote it. His critiques were honest but not harsh. His suggestions were always given with love and encouragement. His excitement became infectious and spurred me to keep writing. We share our lives from recipes, to fashion, to sexual technique. We relate details of erotic escapades. He opened my eyes and my mind to alternate lifestyles and people who were different than me. He taught me love and acceptance, not only for others, but more importantly, for myself. The character, Tony, in Playgirl, is true. He is my real-life best friend. Playgirl synopsis: When Alena Conner discovers an interactive nude model chat room, she finds a new best friend. Tony becomes her teacher, guide and confidant. He braodens her horizons, exposing her to a new world of gay lifestyles, music and pornography. Alena lives vicariously through his dates with men and cyber-sex at the nude models' web site. With Tony as her mentor, she gains the courage to leave her family ranch and aloof husband, return to graduate schoot at The University of Kansas and enter the dating scene. Could she find a man who will appreciate her for the dynamic, sexual woman she has become? But will she want to give up the benefits of being a Playgirl? Tell me about your best friend? Can anyone relate? If not, tell me that too. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Visit my website Friend me on Facebook Tags:

| Wanted: One Science Geek |
| 2009.02.14 10:11:46 | |

Oh, all my kingdom for a science geek, preferably one with more than a touch of madness to him! So what if I don't have a kingdom, I will lure Mr. Labcoat in with my long, blonde hair and busty frame and seduce him into the following experiment: I want to take all of the good from my beau and all of the good from a former lover (who is now a friend of sorts, go figure) and blend the two together, kind of a Frankenstein thing , sans the monster. Former lover, (yes, the oft cited wolf-boy) is funny, playful and very endearing, but definitely not longterm material. Beau is longterm material, and while he is funny, playful and endearing he has some issues that I would like to work through. Like commitmentphobia to name one- and his total distaste for terms of endearment. What is up with that?
