Fencing is a sexy sport.  I love to watch it.  It reminds me of the days of the duel and the uber romantic idea of two suitors fighting to the death for love.  However, there can be a playful, silly side to the sport, too.  It all depends on your choice of weapon and what you are ultimately fighting for.  It's the silly side of love that I decided to explore in my story, "Her Blade, My Lover."  Maybe it's a little self-indulgent.  I hope you won't mind.

My new story, "Closer," out today in the Love Notes Anthology was a fun story to write due to the theme - sex and music.  I got the idea for this one after watching a documentary about female porn stars.  I always wondered how women rationalized going into that line of work.

One of the ways is to create an alter ego.  One of the women in the documentary described her ritual to transform herself from plain Jane from Anytown, USA into "Janie Juggs," her character or alter ego, the porn star.  The ritual was mostly concerned with cosmetics.  When the make up was off, she was Jane.  When the make up was on, Janie was on the loose.

I know some folks in the BDSM community.  I know this type of ritual applies to the club scene as well.  By day, the folks who frequently BDSM clubs are respectable, upstanding citizens.  Accountants, lawyers...types the average person might not suspect of being involved in so called "deviant" behavior.  But when they go to the club, they dress up in costumes, and might be known there by another name.

I decided to apply the concept of this kind of transformation to someone who might frequent the club scene.  If you want to get the full affect of the experience I hoped readers would have, you want want to give the songs referenced in the story a listen, too.

I hope you enjoy it and would love to hear whether or not it "worked" for you.

It's only fitting that my story, "The Definition of Is," be included in RR's latest anthology Power Plays.  I wrote this piece specifically for a live reading I'd been invited to.  When the organizers told me that year's theme was "Sex & Politics," I wasn't sure how I was going to pull off something on that theme.  Then it occured to me that a certain former philandering President hadn't been in the news much lately.  When I started to wonder what it might take to change his ways, the notion of the First Lady putting him in his place came to mind.

I have read the piece a couple of times over the years and have to say that this story always gets a good reaction from the crowd.  I don't know what's more shocking...the First Lady's plan or the fact that I read it out loud...LOL!

I hope you enjoy reading it, even if it does make you blush ;)

Before Christmas, RR released a series of short stories called The Twelve Days of Christmas.  The theme is loosely based on the Christmas carol of the same name.  I was lucky enough to snag Day 5 - Five Golden Rings.

As I said in my initial RR blog post, fetishes are fascinating to me.  (I may have a fetish for learning about fetishes...LOL!)  I like to know what motivates people to do what they do, how they figure out what they like or dislike as far as sex is concerned.  While I was doing some research, I learned about a kink called orgasm control or release training.  (Think Pavlov's dog, but orgasm instead of salivation as the response.)  Then I saw a picture of a rather unique vibrator that had five gold rings on it.

When the image of the vibrator and the idea of orgasm control met in my mind, the story Five Golden Rings was born.  Although it is a Christmas themed story, that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy it now.  If it's as cold where you are, as it is here, might I suggest this hot little story to heat you up on a cold winter's night?

Happy 2009 to all of our wonderful readers.  I'd like to thank you all personally for making the RR launch a big success.

I've had several short stories published since the launch and several more that will be released soon.  I've been told that my stories are a little on the wild side, possibly extreme in a few cases, but I hope you have as much fun reading them as I did writing them.

Some of the best writing advice I've ever received is "write what you know."  So while I aim to write stories that others will enjoy, there is always something in the story that is near and dear to my heart.

Case in point, my story "How You Play The Game" from the Men In Shorts anthology is as much about my love affair with the game of softball as it is about what's happening in the war between two fierce competitors on and off the field.

When I'm not writing, I'm reading.  I read across the genres but seem to gravitate toward crime/detective stories more often than not.

I'm interested in learning more about fetishes and how people come by their kinks.  If there is a theme that you'd like to see explored, I'd like to know.  Perhaps your suggestion will wind up making its way into a future story here at RR.
