1.    Etain is a woman unencumbered by today’s definitions of sexuality. She is creating her own path.

2.    Sex and magic are a huge part of this story between a priestess of the Goddess and the son of a magistrate who also follows the teachings of Padricus—a Christian otherwise known as Patrick.

3.    Gender bending scenes are another huge element the story. Disguises. Masks. Never knowing what is beneath the robes….or trews.

4.    Vampish, sex-crazed fairies make an appearance.

5.    Of course there is food in this book—as it is in all of Jesse’s books and stories. Plenty of mead and honey and oranges—a delicacy at the time.
